Planning with the Community
Story by Gina Whitehill-Baziuk
Throughout this summer, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ staff have been meeting with the and participating in 47 one-on-one conversations and one focus group with 68 individuals who currently live, work, own a business or property and/or manage an organization, faith-based group or educational institution in the neighborhoods surrounding Cascade Campus to learn aboutÌý their history, experiences, concerns andÌý hopes for the neighborhood and Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Cascade. The conversations provided a perfect opportunity to have community members review the college’s recently drafted ÌýCascade Community Vision Document, a document that will become a foundation of the Master Planning and new building design work. The interviews are also helping the college to form the “bonesâ€ of a new community Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC). ÌýCommunity stakeholders have been generous with their time and insightful and candid about their visions for their community’s future.
Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ will compile this collective history of community perceptions, experiences and expectations regarding the community, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ and Cascade Campus to create a Community Assessment. The Cascade design team will use this assessment and the Campus’s Community Vision to guide the development of the Campus Master Plan. The assessment will also guide Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ in developing strategies and tools to engage the diversity of neighborhood stakeholders in the planning process and expand Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s community partnerships.
