Living Poetry: A Workshop
Explore poetic forms while meditating on how poetry inspires depth and wonder. Workshop your poems as a group. Try diary-writing in verse, conjure observational poems, write experimental odes. Prior poetry-writing experience helpful.
Does poetry merely reflect life or can it play a more profound role in how we see and experience the world? How can it inspire and urge us toward a more embodied, imaginative and connective experience? We'll write with immediacy while mulling over the symbols and images that fill our lives. We'll collectively read our classmates' pieces and offer them supportive feedback. Students should feel somewhat ready to share writing and receive feedback. Students may be encouraged to work on writing outside of class.
