AASHE Conference Update

Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ was a host institution for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) annual conference held in Portland this year, October 26-29. This conference is the largest gathering of sustainability higher education professionals and students, drawing over 2,100 registrants from around the world this year.

As a host institution, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ participating in the conference in a number of ways:

  • Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ had aAASHE_header_logo strong representation at the conference with over 30 faculty, staff, and students attending.
  • Sustainability staff hosted a sold-out tour of the Rock Creek campus- covering the campus’s many sustainability initiatives including the learning garden, closed loop compost system, LEED building practices, 500 kw solar array, and many others- and Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s CLIMB Center- highlighting the green roof and storm water plaza collaborative project with the city.
  • Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ had an informational table in the expo hall, which showed off Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Sustainability’s new look, specifically designed for the conference by the Marketing team, and received a lot of foot traffic.
  • Several Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ faculty and staff members presented at the conference, sharing best practices on sustainable purchasing, learning gardens, cooperative education projects, and international sustainability initiatives.
  • Dr. Jeremy Brown introduced the conference’s closing keynote speaker and spoke to the college’s many efforts making Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ a leader in higher education sustainability.
